The Sepia Tone was the original Gottsu mouthpiece, released 15 years ago when Gottsu first went into business. The mouthpiece was made from resin and had a small chamber – it was a perfect student mouthpiece yet was beloved even by professionals. However, it was discontinued in 2023.
But now, the Sepia Tone returns with an Ebonite body and sporting grooves that make it compatible with the revolutionary Gottsu sliding ligature. The Sepia Tone has a very low blowing resistance but maintains a beautiful tone. The sliding ligature combines with the mouthpiece to provide an even lower blowing resistance and incredibly quick responsiveness. So has the mouthpiece evolved into a professional model? Yes and no. The small chamber is excellent for beginning saxophonists, as it has a very low resistance, yet the Sepia Tone produces a tone that even advanced and professional saxophonists love. The mouthpiece is now more robust than ever with its Ebonite body, which means it may serve a young saxophonist for many years as they grow and become more proficient, and eventually become an experienced, renowned professional.
The mouthpiece may be purchased alone or in combination with the sliding ligature. Additionally, the shank may be customized with either a Silver or Copper ring. A Silver ring greatly enhances the tone and projection while a Copper ring centers the tone with a moderate projection increase.
“What is the appeal of the Sepia Tone? It is a mouthpiece that can be enjoyed by both first-time players and professionals.
The concept is vanilla ice cream. Strong-flavored ice cream may be tasty at first, but eventually you will tire of the flavor. Vanilla is a flavor that can be enhanced with other ingredients, allowing you to continue to enjoy it in many new flavors.
The same goes for the Sepia Tone. It can be adapted to any playing style, and the more you play it, the more you will love it. It is a mouthpiece that allows you to truly enjoy music.”
