In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Gottsu developed Masahiko Goto’s signature Sepia Tone Vintage, combining Silver and Ebonite into a unique and beautiful piece.  The design is based on the original VI model, but the “Signature” has been completely redeveloped to complement the qualities of the solid silver shank ring, which brightens the tone of the mouthpiece. 

The 2023 update to the Signature features the addition of Gottsu’s new ligature system, which slides into grooves cut parallel to the table. The sliding ligature features a unique pressure plate mechanism which securely and evenly exerts pressure across the reed – significantly improving the performance over a conventional ligature.

The Signature resonates superbly with power that feels solid and centered, and has a thick bass even with a brighter tone.  With the new updates, it now feels softer and more pleasant to play than ever.

I went through trial and error to see if I could make Vintage Signature out of marble.
Not only did we change the material, but we also subtly modified the shape to match the material, and plated the SV950 shank ring with 24 gold to create a surprisingly tasteful tone. We went through trial and error to see if we could adopt the new patent-pending ligature system to a conical hard rubber mouthpiece. Try very lightly tightening the screw on the slide ligature so that there is not much tension. There is a tone that you have never experienced before. Gottsu’s new mouthpieces are the result of the highest quality materials and technical excellence. This offers saxophonists even more musical possibilities.
