Soloist Crossover
Soloist Crossover is essentially a Jazz Soloist made from polycarbonate, which is a more durable material than ebonite (hard rubber). The Soloist Crossover receives its name from its ability to produce a variety of tones, allowing players to “crossover” from one style to another. Polycarbonate is a softer material than ebonite, so it absorbs shocks and is difficult to break. The polycarbonate construction also causes the mouthpiece to respond easily with little blowing. The Crossover’s durability and ease of blowing make it a good mouthpiece for beginners.
I originally made a mouthpiece out of transparent acrylic to explain the inside of the mouthpiece design at music fairs and music stores. After I made it, I was very curious to play it, but I did not like the hard sound that it produced. I then started to study different transparent materials, and learned about polycarbonate. The material is good with high baffle, so I designed with it. The reason why I introduced only an Alto model is because it is more difficult and takes longer to craft out of polycarbonate.
